POST-GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN RESEARCH METHODS AND WRITING SKILLS
Centre for Basic Research started a rigorous and dynamic Training Programme leading to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods and Writing Skills. The programme is significantly strengthened by staff’s research interests and skills, which form the backbone of the programme. The graduate student will become familiar with research methods used by professional and academic researchers. Individual students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. In this way students will build confidence in learning, as well as gain knowledge and skills in preparation for study at higher levels and/or taking up very challenging assignments in the work place.
A core value of the programme is to provide the opportunity to develop a high level of individual research skills but follow particular strands of research - for example gender research. At the same time, the participant will be exposed to other disciplines, consistent with the Centre’s research areas that seek to achieve five key research objectives namely:
- Research on issues of basic social significance
- Document materials on these issues
- Publish research results
- Organize training for interested groups, and
- Liaise with institutions with which CBR broadly shares similar objectives.
Course content
The core modules include:
- Introduction to Research
- Proposal Writing (Both research and project proposals)
- Quantitative & Qualitative Research Methods
- Data Management and Analysis
- Budgeting and Reporting
- Report Writing
Admission Applications are welcome from Graduate Students in different academic disciplines as well as those in work and seeking continuing professional development.
